General Motors Egypt has begun the production of Chevrolet Move passenger van at its facility in 6th of October City, by using the kits delivered by GM China’s SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture.

 GM Egypt starts production of Chevrolet Move passenger van

GM has invested $10m in upgrading the facility and equipping it with new tooling to further support its plans to produce nearly 5,000 vehicles per year for sale in Egypt.

According to the carmaker, the Move car is the first vehicle from SAIC-GM-Wuling manufactured outside China, following the signing of an agreement with GM Egypt in 2011.

The Move passenger van is powered by a 1.2 litre 16-valve DOHC electronic fuel injection engine a five-speed manual transmission, which produces 85hp output.

GM claims that the new passenger van is suitable for moving people as well as cargo and can accommodate nearly eight passengers.

The new Chevrolet Move will be on sale through Al Mansour Automotive Egypt's nationwide distribution network.
